Meet the Founder

Who is Jean Gan?

Jean Gan is an experienced in-house legal counsel with more than 15 years of practice across South Asia and the wider Asia-Pacific region. Her work spans corporate and commercial law, contracts, compliance, governance, and M&A, advising multinational businesses on growth and risk management.

She currently serves as Regional Senior Legal Counsel, overseeing contracts and compliance across multiple jurisdictions and advising executive teams on strategic legal and business matters.

Jean’s interest in artificial intelligence began when she started using AI tools in her own legal work. That experience sparked a deeper curiosity about how technology could transform legal practice and corporate governance. It led her to pursue a self-funded PhD in Law at Leicester Law School (UK), where her research focuses on AI regulation, arbitration, corporate legal frameworks, and access to justice.

At the intersection of law and AI, Jean noticed a widening gap between technological advancement and legal understanding. To help bridge that divide, she founded several initiatives aimed at making AI governance more accessible to legal and compliance professionals.

She established the Global AI & Law Network (GAIL) to connect experts, researchers, and practitioners shaping responsible AI governance, and AIgnite Women to promote women’s leadership and inclusion in AI. She also created How to Legal AI, a practical playbook series guiding lawyers on how to use AI effectively and ethically.

Jean believes that building the future of AI governance must be a shared global effort. Collaboration between law, technology, and business is, in her view, essential to creating a fair, transparent, and human-centred digital future.
